Hiking Lake Tahoe: A History and Trail Guide

$20.99

Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, drawing tourists from literally everywhere. This guide opens with a short introduction that gives a little history of the area, followed by a quick chart of the twenty-nine trails covered in the guide. The chart includes the trail name, location, difficulty, length, and elevation gain. A section covers trail ratings, Tahoe weather, terrain, risks and challenges, and hiking etiquette. But this is not a typical hiking guide with lots of detailed maps and charts filled with very specific information. This is broken into six sections: The California Trail, Historical Truckee, Mining and Logging, South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe’s Early Tourism, and Beyond Tahoe. There is a great deal of history covered in these sections, and short write-ups of the trail specifics at the end of the sections. The writing is lively and will be very interesting to anyone who enjoys history. In addition, there are wonderful historical photographs, drawings, travel posters, maps, and a section of gorgeous full-color photos of the areas around the trails. Author Suzie Dundas has clearly done her homework and her excellent research shines through. This book is not to be missed.]
