Give My Swiss Chards to Broadway: The Broadway Lover’s Cookbook
Sometimes it is terribly hard to find the perfect book for someone, but if that person is in love with both Broadway musical theatre and cooking great food, this book is that perfect book. Adam Roberts, who is a food writer who also loves Broadway musicals, and Gideon Glick, who is a Broadway actor who really loves good food, have combined their talents to write a cookbook with Broadway in mind. It has six sections covering breakfast, appetizers, soups and salads, main dishes, sides, and desserts, but their titles are much more clever. Recipes include fun names like Griddler on the Roof (challah French toast), Little Chop of Horrors (a lettuce beet salad), My Fair Ladyfingers (tiramisu), and Slawsettos (coleslaw). Each recipe opens with a little bit about the show it’s related to and something about the recipe. The recipe has well-written instructions and an ingredient list and is followed by cooking notes and listening notes for music from the show along with interesting facts about the show. The writing is smart and clever, and the humor is well-honed. The only thing missing is nutritional information that would help one keep the pounds off.
