The Hungry Dark: A Thriller
The Hungry Dark tells the story of a young woman named Ashley who is the center of her family’s business—psychic shows. Readers learn from the beginning that Ashley may not be the real deal, however, as her brother Aiden speaks into her ear during the shows, feeding her information about the people in her audience.
A much sinister force enters as Ashley goes back to a place she spent time at when she was younger because young children are being murdered. There, she encounters The Heedful Ones, dark monster-like beings. Ashley doesn’t know what they want and with her father on her tail about making more money for the family, Ashley befriends an American podcaster.
Although the book’s premise is quite interesting, I found the story to drag on and become boring and repetitive at times. I felt bad for Ashley because she was picked on by so many people in the book, being dragged this way and that. The book’s setting was spooky, which I loved, and as the mystery unfolds, readers will realize that the answer was right there in front of them the whole time.
