The Group Trip: A Novel
The Group Trip follows a group of college friends as they navigate college life and adulthood. The book alternates between the present day and the past. Chloe is the main character and is rather indecisive about what she wants out of life. She moves across the country for college but decides that she wants to move back home to California. Then, the night before she leaves, she meets Luke. And Sloane, Marianne, Alden, and Wyatt. Chloe decides to stay at her college, and the group forms a tight bond. Then something happens. Luke proposes to Chloe after a ten year relationship. She says no.
This story was beautifully written, and I liked how the author started the book with a present-day house fire and Chloe not knowing where Luke was. The book had strong themes, including friendship, infidelity, infertility, and betrayal. Each character was described to a tee, and the characters’ dialogue felt natural. Although the book’s plot moved fairly slowly, it was a book that was enjoyable to soak up. The Group Trip is your perfect beach read.
