What Lies in the Woods: A Novel
Two eleven-year-old girls run out of the woods. Their friend has been murdered, they say. Only Naomi Shaw isn’t dead. She was stabbed seventeen times, once in the face. The girls, Liv, Cass, and Naomi, identify a man rumored for picking up hitchhiking women and killing them, and he is convicted. Now, several years later, Alan Stahl dies in prison of cancer, and all of the feelings the girls have about the man come back. But the girls also know that they lied about that day. After all, they were only playing their Goddess game and watching over the skeleton they found who was wearing a bracelet that said “Persephone.”
This book is one of the best thriller suspense novels I have ever read. It is pieced together so well, with everything coming together at the end. The story is told from the point of view of Naomi, whose personal life seems to be hanging on by a thread. She finds herself in danger multiple times as she tries to uncover and remember the secrets of that day. Readers will love this fast-paced mystery set in the woods. Nothing is as it seems, and no one can be trusted. Reminiscent of Chevy Stevens and Ruth Ware novels.
