The Christmas Spirit
The Christmas Spirit is another lovely, feel-good read holiday read from Debbie Macomber. Lily and Lance are at their grandparent’s house, and their grandmother tells them that she will tell them a real-life story instead of a fairy tale. The kids snuggle in to hear the story about how two best friends, Hank and Pete, trade places for a week. Hank owns a tavern, and Pete is a pastor of a church. What ensues is a learning lesson for both men and those around them. Hank drives Pete’s sister Grace Ann nuts when he doesn’t read her list of things to do and lets the nativity donkey escape. Pete is too slow at pouring beer, and customers get irritated at his lack of skill. With fun characters such as a group of bikers, a group of strippers, and an old curmudgeon lady who bakes burnt cookies, The Christmas Spirit will have readers laughing, crying, and hoping for the best. If there is a book to settle down with on the couch with a mug of hot cocoa, this is it.
