Leemei Tan-Boisgillot’s The Asian Home Kitchen was a pleasure to review. I don’t particularly enjoy researching on the internet for recipes, as there are so many ads and the hilarious thousand word stories to scroll through in order to finally find the recipe. I’ll be gladly using this lovely cookbook, instead.

The chapters are divided by regions, from Japan and Korea to India and Sri Lanka, and more. Tan-Boisgillot has lived all over the world and the variety of recipes is wonderful. I also appreciated that some are vegetarian friendly, some are simple to make, and some are more complicated. A few have ingredients that are a challenge to find (I am now quite curious about locating lemongrass stalks), and some have items easily found in most home kitchens.

I made her Korean Beef Stew, something I love in restaurants and had no idea how to make at home, and it came out great. I also tried the Spicy Tofu dish, which also came out quite well. I think soon I will be ready to be more adventurous by trying more difficult recipes. There are some lovely pictures as well. I highly recommend this cookbook for fans of Asian food.
