Star Wars: The Last Order

The Last Order by best-selling author Kwame Mbalia is the latest exciting addition to the Star Wars galaxy. The main storyline takes place after The Rise of Skywalker, after The Resistance has defeated the First Order. We also get an insight into how the First Order recruits and trains the Stormtroopers from the origin tales of both Fin and Jannah, and what led them to fight with the Resistance. As the Star Wars galaxy expands, so do the storytellers, and Kwame Mbali is an excellent addition to the growing list of authors.

The Last Order reads like a young adult novel. The main story follows a young tea farmer, Coy Tria, who is recruited into the Resistance and undergoes a transformation from a simple messenger into a character with great ideas and insight. We also get to follow both Fin and Jannah, both Stormtroopers for the First Order, as they come to terms with their ideals not aligning with the fascist military junta. It feels like Mbalia is telling another story, with his black characters stuck in white uniforms and forced to fit into a world they don’t belong in. //The Last Order// is as exciting and action-packed as we have come to expect from Star Wars books.
