Greetings from New Nashville: How a Sleepy Southern Town Became “It” City
Greetings from New Nashville is a collection of stories and letters written from 2007-2019 by various authors that have something to do or say with Nashville, Tennessee. This once small town has grown into a name that everyone knows or longs to know. The short essays included in this book cover topics from the origin of Nashville’s famous hot chicken, government workers who have made declarations about it, to it being second-best to Vegas for bachelorette parties. With Nashville being in the south, there are stories about segregation. With it having a rich history in music, there are music references, such as Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Ben Folds, and Paramore.
I found this book very informative about Nashville’s rich and expansive history. The authors did a good job of explaining events, especially ones that happened in 1998, as the turning points of Nashville. I was unaware of almost everything that the authors wrote about, so I found this book to be an enjoyable history lesson about politics, food, sports, and entertainment. Read this book if you are from Nashville or have any desire to go to Nashville, TN.
