Hollow: A Fun, Spooky Horror Novel from a TikTok Sensation
Hollow by Celina Myers is a modern vampire saga with LGBTQ+ representation and a new take on popularly referenced works like Twilight and Vampire Diaries, making it a forerunner for this generation’s vampire genre. Within the story, an unexpected death and transformation come to a woman who learns she has a second chance at making her life meaningful and making a difference in the world around her.
Sadly, though, while reading, I struggled with what I perceived as minimal character development and quality of dialogue, which affected my engagement and connection to the content; however, the story is a quick read, which can affect the reader’s feelings about the aforementioned topics. The story starts strong with an engaging and descriptive prologue; however, the dialogue seems weaker when the setting shifts from the past to the present day in the main storyline. The ending regains momentum with increased action, but it is evident that this vampire story is more about the changes in an individual character, rather than being classified as a non-stop thriller (though there are some interspersed action scenes). The ending teases at a possible continuation, and I enjoyed it enough that I would check this possibility out.
