Tlotolo Tsamaase greets the world with her debut novel, Womb City, a tale of Afrofuturism with a healthy dose of horror. With this book you’ll be left hoping a world like this never happens, but also unable to stop turning the pages to find out how it ends.

In a 1984-esque world that certainly has plenty of echoes of our own, where constant surveillance and monitoring is just part of existing in everyday life. Nelah should feel like she’s pretty much on top of the world, as a person with wealth and fame, a loving husband, and will finally be getting her yearned for lab-grown daughter in the near future.

Except she’s also trapped in this loveless marriage to a cop who doesn’t trust her. A drug-induced series of events leads to Nelah committing a serious crime she attempts to cover up. But the dead come back to talk it seems and it will be up to her to uncover what her victim was involved in and what potential ramifications will be involved once this news come to light.

Womb City has a complex and deep world with strong characters you can both empathize with and distrust. If you’re a fan of dark sci-fi, this is the book for you.
