With Regrets: A Novel
I have to say, when I chose this book to review, I found the premise behind people getting stuck at a neighborhood party with some kind of pandemic about to hit pretty interesting. Sadly, I was really disappointed as the book was really quite boring most of the time. Readers are introduced to Liz and Tom who have two children, Reid and Callie. Liz doesn’t want to go to Britta the Instagram Influencer’s party but Tom thinks it’s a good idea. There are two other couples plus one half of a couple—a woman named Padma. Irony strikes since Britta’s whole purpose for the party was to get Padma’s husband, Dev to the party to try and get a chance to pitch to him. When the “glimmer” strikes and the National Guard comes, the people who leave end up dying and then there are a bunch of bodies in the street. Liz will stop at nothing to get back home to her kids.
Although the idea behind the book was decent, the “glimmer” was really quite generic and kind of like a bad sci-fi movie. I thought the ending would be exciting but even that fell flat in the end.
