Julian Reeve is a child psychologist with a shadowy past. Meredith Dalton is his much younger girlfriend with a few secrets of her own. The two of them together would make for an exciting story, but Ana Medeiros goes one step further, and adds the Raven Room, a sex club where just about anything goes. Julian is a member of this club, and when Meredith coaxes him to bring her along one evening, she finds herself drawn into a world full of mysteries, including those that come from Julian’s past.

I never thought I would find myself this impressed by erotica, but The Raven Room is more than just a book filled with sex. It definitely was erotic, and I loved the way Meredith’s sexuality was treated, but the sexual nature of the Raven Room is tied in deeply with its danger, and when the dead body of a young woman is implied to have some connection to the club, a mystery opens up that only adds to the excitement of the novel. I was on the edge of my seat while reading, eager to find out what would happen next. The characters were phenomenal as well: three-dimensional, believable, and flawed in a way that made them feel incredibly human.

This book is the first in a trilogy, and the only reason I’m disappointed in that is because I got so wrapped up in the story and the characters that I wanted to understand everything that had been happening and see whether my suspicions about certain characters were correct. It’s beautifully constructed, and the ending left me hungry for book two.
