Longtime best friends Suki, Melissa, Tara, and Priya are overwhelmed with the drama of their individual lives, but three of them reunite for their twenty-fifth high-school reunion. While there, they reflect on the “superlatives” that they believed would shape their lives: Melissa was most likely to win the White House, while Priya was destined to cure cancer and Tara would absolutely open a Michelin-starred restaurant. None of the women have lived up to these aspirations, and all are mired in various forms of personal and professional inertia. They vow to change their lives.

Only Suki, with her spectacularly successful makeup app, has come close to achieving her superlative: join the Forbes 400. But all is not as rosy as Suki makes it out to be, and a professional reckoning brings all four friends together to support one another in a way they haven’t for a long time. Marriages and relationships shift, jobs implode and expand, children thrill and disappoint, but the power of female friendship sees them to the other side. There’s nothing too surprising in these pages, but the late-nineties nostalgia offers a pleasant escape.
