The Au Pair Affair: A Novel (Big Shots, 2)
Marine biologist Tallulah moves to Boston for grad school, where she will be an au pair for hockey star Burgess’ daughter. The pair met through their friends Wells and Josephine, and each felt an immediate attraction. They aim to keep things professional, but Burgess can’t help but be protective of (and smitten by) his new nanny. Things heat up – but can Burgess break down the emotional walls kept by Tallulah?
Tessa Bailey is known for her steamy romances, and this is no exception. After reading the first in the series, Fangirl Down, I was intrigued by the spark between Tallulah and Burgess. I was drawn into the first half as the pair explored their feelings, and the sexual tension was red hot. However, Burgess’ fierce protectiveness and need to assert his ownership over Tallulah didn’t work for me. Although I am generally a fan of open-door romances, I did not love the dirty talk used. The third act conflict did not seem logical after the relationship had just started getting real. I enjoyed the sports tie-ins and Boston setting. I wished Lissa was a more prominent character, as she endeared me in Fangirl Down!
