I’m Going to Be a Princess
There are many careers people can choose to be when they are young and rarely does the idea of being a brave princess convince a mother that her little daughter is going to be a princess one day. Young Maya is picked up by her mother from school one day. As they are walking home together, her mother asks Maya what she would like to be one day.
When Maya responds “she is going to be a princess” her mother poses additional careers she could pursue such as: a surgeon, an Olympic athlete, a rocket scientist, and more. Each career example features a prominent African-American individual from that field such as Misty Copeland amongst others.
After each career, and person, is explained Maya says she is still going to be a princess. Once they get home the mother asks what type of princess and Maya says she wants to be like Princess Amina, who was a skilled warrior in the mid-1500s in Nigeria.
This book is designed for parents to read to their children and designed to help them be confident in what they would like to do as a career when they get older.
