Hotel Magnifique

Jani will do whatever it takes to get enough money for passage for her and her sister to go home. When the mysterious Hotel Magnifique appears looking for new workers, she jumps at the chance. But Jani soon finds that the hotel is not as it seems and is far more dangerous than she ever could have believed. With secrets and a mysterious, handsome boy blocking her in her search for the truth, escape from the magical and magnificent Hotel Magnifique will not be easy.

I did not like Jani for the first half of the book. Something about the way she was so devoted and exhibited tunnel vision toward her sister rubbed me the wrong way. There aren’t many other characters, but they’re all easy to tell apart and have their own motives. The magic system was thought out and very simple, making it easy to understand, even when I was still sorting out the mystery of the hotel. The hotel itself is fabulous, unique rooms and full of magic in a way that made it believable.
