As a teenager, Iris Walsh witnessed the kidnapping of her twin sister, Piper, yet her disappearance becomes a cold case. Now an adult, Iris is still seeking answers and has her own theory about her sister’s captor. She hatches a plan to track down the criminal, which involves her working at a prison for the criminally insane. Once arriving at Shoal Island Hospital, Iris notices that her coworkers are just as troubled as the inmates. Still, she stops at nothing to learn the truth about the fate of her sister.

I was quickly drawn into Good Half Gone, as the story of Piper’s disappearance unfolds in alternating timelines between the past and present. The flashbacks describe Iris’s close relationship with her sister and Gran, and their tumultuous relationship with their mother. However, the storyline was quickly bogged down with redundant details that slowed the pace. The writing felt choppy and often jumped to new scenes abruptly. The romance was a bit odd and unnecessary.

The end delivered a fast-paced conclusion, and though I anticipated part of the big reveal, I was surprised by the ending. Overall, I enjoyed the story, but the writing could be improved to increase the clarity.
