Do Your Worst
Riley is a professional curse breaker, on assignment in Scotland to break the curse over a famous castle. On her first night abroad, she meets a handsome Englishman named Clark and they immediately hit it off. When Riley reports to the castle on her first day, she is surprised to see Clark. His charm turns to scorn after revealing that he is an archeologist who does not believe in curses or hexes. Determined to get her off his excavation site, Clark turns on Riley. Yet, their attraction is hard to ignore as they become professional enemies.
Do Your Worst featured an original storyline in setting and subject, which can be hard to come by in romance novels. Though it had potential, the delivery was lacking. Danan’s writing felt choppy at times, with abrupt scenes. I often found it hard to follow, with dialogue appearing randomly placed. Still, I enjoyed the novel overall and liked the protagonists. Clark was very closed off, but by the end of the book I liked him. The romance was cute, though moved fast – enemies to lovers in a few weeks. Although this wasn’t a favorite, it was entertaining!
