Large font makes the information approachable to young readers, as do lots of brief blocks of text throughout the page with different facts. The prominence of the excellent photographs helps to keep the interest of even a reluctant reader.

This book can also be used to help encourage reading. The child can read the introduction on each spread and a parent can read the smaller tidbits. Plus, there are many opportunities to talk about what’s going on in all the pictures.

Back matter includes “wild activities” to help kids have fun with the information they just learned. There is also a list of resources for further research, a nice glossary, and index.

Young animal enthusiasts will really enjoy this book. Although jam packed with information, no one section is long enough to become overwhelming. Each page provides good animal facts in a bite-sized package. Animal Planet Wild Animals is an apt title for this excellent volume.
