Wild Reverence: A Novel
Goddess Matilda is born not knowing her father, and with unrealized magic that she will spend her adolescence in search for. She finds a father-figure in her mother’s friend Bade, who is also God of War, and has taken a salt vow to protect her. Matilda soon finds herself dreaming of a young boy named Vincent, and they soon meet in the mortal realm. As they become closer, Matilda begins to develop feelings that are foreign to her as a divine being. They go years without seeing each other, then reunite when Vincent needs help protecting his kingdom. The pair creates a marriage ruse to throw off their enemies, but soon realize that true feelings bind them together.
This was a sweeping saga that was a love story at its core, but also a coming-of-age depiction of the main character, Matilda. Much of the story is told from her viewpoint, as she struggles to find her way as a divine leader who finds herself in love with a mortal. The emotional story follows her struggle to find family and belonging. I adored the novel’s beautiful writing, and though it took me several chapters to become immersed in the story, the payoff was well worth it. A truly beautiful book!
