An Artful Dodge

The life of a thief is dangerous; the risk of being caught is an ever-present shadow. Kit would give it up if she could, but she has a little sister to take care of. Besides, thieving runs in her blood, and Amelia, the ringleader, is fair with her girls. Everything changes when the rightful heir returns, demanding the ring from Amelia. Kit is dragged into a dangerous heist, one that could set her and her sister for life, or send her to jail for the rest of it.

The stakes are high and kept me on the edge of my seat for the second half of the book; it took awhile to get into the story at first. It has a bit of a slow start; there’s a lot of setup. There are a lot of characters to keep track of, many only appearing in the beginning, then getting mentioned later. I had a hard time remembering who was who. Kit is observant, a skill that comes in handy and is used throughout the book. But there are a few times she’s almost too observant, seeming to understand and know what people are thinking.
